Whyalla Council has received a major acknowledgement, with its Mental Health Matters Round nominated in the Local Government Professionals SA Leadership Excellence Awards.
The initiative has been shortlisted in the Excellence in Community Partnerships and Collaboration category.
The city‑wide round brings together local sporting clubs, schools, mental health services, businesses and residents, aiming to raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental health across the region.
Originally launched as a grassroots idea, the Mental Health Matters Round has grown into a highly visible and impactful community event.
Mayor Phill Stone says the nomination is an important recognition of the work being led locally.
He says the acknowledgement highlights not only the council’s commitment to mental health, but also the strength of the partnerships formed through the initiative.
