It’s a disappointing start to the racing season in Port Lincoln, with the first two race meetings postponed.

The track was deemed unsuitable for racing following an inspection on Monday.

It’s understood sections of the course proper haven’t recovered from damage caused by treatment during a turf renovation earlier in the year.

As a result, the meetings scheduled for October 5 and 26 will not run at the venue.

In a statement posted to social media, the Port Lincoln Racing Club said staff and the committee are working closely with track management from Racing SA to continue a program of track maintenance that provides a safe and durable turf coverage.

Port Lincoln Racing Club General Manager Elouise Dukalskis said the outcome of the inspection does not diminish the ongoing efforts of staff, committee and the local racing community.

Racing SA will continue to monitor the track and work with the club to ensure it can safely return to racing as soon as possible.

Racing SA are now exploring programming alternatives.
