The Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) is investigating after a mutilated shark carcass washed up at Louth Bay near Port Lincoln.
Images posted by 7NEWS on Sunday night show the 5-metre White Shark with its jaws removed and stomach split open.
The carcass also had rope marks around its tail suggesting it had been tied up and allowed to drown.
A fur seal carcass and a small Southern Bluefin Tuna were also found in the area, and it’s understood they were used as bait to catch the shark.
PIRSA have confirmed there is no evidence to link its death to the algal bloom, and believe someone could be responsible.
Anyone with information about this serious offence is urged to contact the 24-hour FishWatch Hotline on 1800 065 522.
